چکیده
Background Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare skin neoplasm that has not been characterized on molecular basis. Aim To assess expression profiles of Hedgehog (HH) signalling molecules in MAC and control tumours. Methods Immunohistochemistry was performed for Sonic (SHH), Indian (IHH), Patched 1 (PTCH1) Smoothened (SMO) patient tissue (n = 26) tumour tissue, including syringoma (SyG; n 11), trichoepithelioma (TE; 11) basal cell (BCC; 12) tissues. Results SMO immunoreactivity significantly higher BCC than SyG, TE or (P < 0.001 P 0.03, respectively). The highest IHH observed compared with SyG 0.04). Notably, the SHH protein MAC, even 0.001). In patients (r 0.51; 0.01) correlated PTCH1 expression. Further correlation studies did show significant associations between HH markers assessed > 0.05). Conclusion Our results indicate alterations are unlikely to play major role pathogenesis which contrast morphologically similar TE. observation provides additional information limited pathology knowledge this tumour.

CLINICAL PRESENTATION A 42-year-old man presented with a 5-year history of an asymptomatic slow-growing papule on the left scapular region. The physical examination revealed a well-defined, 1.2-cm diameter, firm, domeshaped papule with a white-pinkish center, peripheral small papules with a pearly appearance, and a hyperpigmented outer rim (Fig 1). The initial clinical impression suggested basa...

A 36-year-old woman came to our OPD with presentation of a solitary, indurated, nonpainful subcutaneous plaque on the left nipple area for 2 months. There was neither discharge nor ulceration. Axillary's lymph node was not palpable. Histopathological examination directed the diagnosis to microcystic adnexal carcinoma. A wide excision was performed with negative margin. The preoperative and intr...

The microcystic adnexal carcinoma is a rare, locally aggressive malignant adnexal neoplasm associated with significant morbidity. It is often underdiagnosed due to clinical and histopathological resemblance with other cutaneous neoplasms and/or a combination of lack of familiarity associated with inadequate samples. We report a case with clinical hypothesis of scarring alopecia and histopatholo...

SUMMARY We report a rare case of a large facial microcystic adnexal carcinoma in an elderly patient who underwent several rounds of excision. The patient was left with a large facial defect and remaining positive margins. The decision was made to stop further excision and proceed with reconstructive surgery. We show that the patient's function and quality of life were not impeded despite recons...
